Obituary of Josephine Jay Destro

Josephine "Jay" Destro, 97, of Jamestown, died at 7 am. Friday (December 30, 2016) in the Lutheran Home.
She was born in Jamestown on December 18, 1919 the daughter of Anthony and Maria Constanza Destro.
Jay was employed at the former Jamestown Veneer & Plywood for thirty years and retired in 1981.
She was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and a member of the Altar & Rosary Society and volunteered at the annual St. Joseph Table. She also volunteered as a foster grandparent through the Head Start Program for twenty years and also helped serve lunch at the Adult Day Care Center and St. Susan Soup Kitchen.
Jay is survived by a sister, Angela "Angie" Loughrey, Pendleton, N.Y. and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Carl, Joseph, Samuel, Sebastian and Michael Destro and by two sisters, Rose Foti and Sarah Monella.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor, will be the celebrant.
Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm in the Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services. The family requests that in lieu of flowers,
memorials may be made to St. James Catholic Church, 27 Allen St., Jamestown, N.Y. 14701.
