To Frank’s family: I am sorry for this belated message, which I hope you will see. I knew Frank only briefly, in Carrollton, GA, meeting him at the gym (Southern Therapy) where we both worked out. I was new to the place, and Frank, along with a few of his other buddies, made me feel so welcome. He greeted me every time with a wave and a hello, and we usually ended up talking over a weight machine, about all kinds of things, often his family, which was dear to him. Frank was a big part of my workout day, and my friendship was him was what encouraged me to show up. I loved getting to know him a little, was saddened by his health issues, and ultimately glad that he made the move back to New York to be near his son and family. We still talk about Frank here, and miss his big heart and his kindness. My deepest condolences to Trey and all the family.

So sad to hear of your loss at this time. I was one of your Dad"s students he taught at Clayton Elementary Schooll in 1976. He was our Coach and we loved playing basketball or him and i will never forget his big heart and riding in his big orange van which he took all of us girls to Dalegonga to North Ga basketball camp. He was truly a great coach and teacher and i will allways keep tbose memories in my heart. He talked about Ttey to me alot when he came into Lockheed Ctedit Union and his face lit up just telling me all the good thiings Trey had acomplished. Please accept my deepest regards and I will always hold a special place in my heart for our beloved Coach. Sincerely Miranda Loggins Williams

To the Smrekar family, I am so sorry to hear of Frank's passing, I was one of Frank's team mates in Cherokee County, I felt like Frank was my family as well as my friend,he was loved here by so many people and those who were given the chance to know him became better people following his example. I know for sure if our whole softball team could get together we would Honor him as a roll model, a caring man, a teacher of life, and a man who would have your back in time of need. I will miss him greatly, I will never forget this great friend of mine. And to Trey, I remember when you we born, and always know your DAD was and will ever be a great man. I feel he was like a big brother to me and all the other guys will say the same.. Rest in Peace my Big Brother you are loved and that will never change..

We were so very sorry to hear about Frank. He played softball with Leonard for years, along with is buddy, Darrell Wise. He was absolutely one of the sweetest, kindest men I have ever known. He would play with our two boys (and any other children) when they were small while we were all waiting between games. He could also hit a softball a mile and laugh because he didn't have to run. We had not seen him in a few years so it was a shock to hear of his passing but it broke our hearts. So happy to know he was with his family in the end. Our best to you, his family.

I am so sorry for your loss. Coach Smrekar was a wonderful man and one of the best teachers I ever had! I was a student at Clayton Elementary School and Coach as we so affectionately referred him was a gentle giant. He could yell at you and scare you to death but we knew he loved us! He touched many lives, mine included and will be greatly missed!

He was an amazing person....in every aspect of that claim!
I new him...in the mid/late 1970's...thru several years after.
He played in a Men's Softball League...with my ex-husband, who now, is also deceased.
Frank was the sweetest....most fun...every kidding and laughing...the best of the best!
I know he is resting comfortably...in Heaven.
And I am thanking God for letting me get to know this wonderful man.
RIP...Frank...

Trey, Connie, Carlene, & Susie,
I am so sorry for the loss of Frank, also for not being in better contact with my distant cousins, He will always be remembered by my sisters Antonia, Michelle and I as Lil' Frank, as his dad was Big Frank. We remember the summer that the whole family visited Cousin Connie and Frank and stayed with them for the whole week,... And the summer that Frank came for a visit to Akron, OH and spent almost 2 wks with us.... Love and Hugs
Daughters of Connie's cousin, Josephine M. Vitanza Palermo

The "gentle giant". Frank was a great friend to my family. He held my daughter when she was born as if she would break. He never failed to ask how's "my little Amy". Sue and I were honored to have him attend our son Christopher's engagement party at our home six years ago. They, like Sue and I are sadden of his departure from earth, but not ever from our hearts.

My heartfelt condolences and prayers are with you during the loss of a wonderful man. "Coach" was an amazing influence in my childhood. I was a student and player of his at Clayton Elementary in the middle 70's. Whoever would believe that a bunch of southern parents of young girls would allow a huge, New York "yankee" to take their daughters to basketball camp in a orange, wall carpeted van??? All the parents of our basketball team at Clayton! He won the hearts of his players along with their parents. To have known Coach Smrekar was to have loved him...dearly. He was definitely one of a kind. We were so blessed to have him at our small, southern, country school. He taught us about character, pride and humbleness. What a guy!!!
With much love,
Tonya Blanton Padgett
