Johnnie Lee Brooks, 94, of Jamestown, NY, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017 at the Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born on September 4, 1923, in Pine Bluff, AR, the son of late Ned Brooks and Emma Harris Brooks. He attended school in Reydell, Arkansas and later moved to Jamestown to live with his father and his wife Florence Allen Brooks. Who he fondly called Papa and Big Momma.
Prior to retirement he was employed by Jamestown High School. He was a member of the Chadakoin Elks Lodge 718, I.B.P.O.E. of the World. He will be remembered for wearing suits and ties with his matching jewelry, walking all over town, dancing and spending time with his friends at his favorite place-Dugan's.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Henry and Lawrence Brooks; two sisters, Ophelia James and Eva Stovall and a nephew, John Henry James.
He leaves to mourn: his nieces, Lorene Warmack (Jamestown, NY), Tracy (John) Rushing, (Las Vegas, NV), Kim (Edward) Jackson, Terri Phillips and Marilyn Williams of San Antonio, TX. Two great nieces, Jeanne Montrese (Minneapolis, MN) and Sadie James (Charlotte, NC) and a great nephew, David (Tammy) James (Stroudsburg, PA). Also, great-great nieces and nephews, Shantel James Quezaire, Adonis (Elba) Frazier, Aaron, Mia and Emma James.
He was fortunate to live long enough to enjoy his great-great-great nephews and nieces, Devin Quezaire and DaSan, Nia and Santiago Frazier, a host of friends and associates too numerous to mention.
We will miss his unique spirit and his overwhelming willingness to help others. We would also like to thank the staff, nurses and doctors that gave him exceptional care at Tanglewood Manor and Heritage Park.
Memorial service will be held Thursday at noon at the Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services. The Rev. William Blair, pastor of New Creation Assembly of God Church will officiate.
Inurnment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will be present to receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service.
