Obituary of Charles A. Masters

Charles A. Masters, 74, of 8 Wesleyan Street, Panama NY, passed away at 4:29 p.m., Sunday, October 23, 2016, at home surrounded by family. An area resident for all of his life, he was born September 1, 1942 in Jamestown, NY, the son of the late Donald Masters and Pauline Fagan Masters. He was a 1961 graduate of Southwestern Central School, attended Jamestown Community College where he received his associates degree in mechanical technology. Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves with the rank of staff sergeant. He was employed by the Weber-Knapp Company retiring as a tool and die designer after 39 years of dedicated service. He was certified by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) as a manufacturing engineer in the field of tool engineering. After retirement Charles was employed for four years with the Chautauqua Area Regional Transit System (CARTS). He also volunteered his time to drive cancer patients to Roswell Park Institute. Charles was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, the Society of Manufacturing Engineer's, and a trustee with the Harmony Historical Society. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Susan Rowan Masters whom he married August 6, 1966, two sons, Theodore Masters of Panama, NY, and Jonathan Masters of Ashville, NY, a brother Richard Masters (Joan Masters) of Carolina Shores, NC, a nephew Joshua Masters of Sunset Beach, NC, a niece Aimee O'Connor of Charlotte, NC., cousins Michael Masters of Panama, NY and Marilyn Gruel of Lakewood, NY, as well as several other cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a niece, Elizabeth Ann Masters. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Parish Church on 380 E. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood. The Rev. Piotr F. Zaczynski will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 West Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750 or Harmony Historical Society, P.O. Box 127, Ashville, NY 14710.
