Obituary of Sebastian C. Raffa

Sebastian "Busty" C. Raffa, Jr., 84,of 9 Howard St., Jamestown, went to be with the Lord at 7:10 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Jamestown on April 8, 1928, the son of Sebastian and Sarah Lupica Raffa. He was employed at Marlin Rockwell for thirty-five years, having various positions, an assembler, grinder and inspector, and retired in 1990. Busty served with the US Army from 1950 to 1952 and was stationed in Germany. He was a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and a former Council President, an Usher and was in charge of the Trinity Pairs, a communion steward for shut-ins and was known as the Candy Man at the church for the children (anyone shorter than him could have a piece of candy). Busty was a lifetime member of the VFW John W. Tiffany Post #53 and the American Legion Samuel Derby Post #556. He loved his family very much, especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren. He also liked the NY Yankees, the NY Giants, old movies, fishing, hunting, camping, gardening and his dog, Holly. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ludwiczak Raffa whom he married on June 29, 1957 in Jamestown, two daughters, Barbara J. Angus, San Francisco, Ca. and Theresa (Chuck) Yaw, Salamanca, N.Y., two grandsons, Matthew (Melinda) Moran, Steamburg, N.Y. and Jason Yaw, Salamanca, N.Y., three great grandchildren, James, John and Andi Moran, Steamburg, a brother, Anthony (Evelyn) Raffa, two sisters, Mary DiNapoli and Josephine (Joseph) Constantino, Jamestown, a step-granddaughter, Kristan Reynolds, Smethport, Pa., three step great-grandsons, Joshua, Michael & Alex. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Elizabeth Raffa. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012 in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dan Nagle, pastor of First Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
