Anthony T. Brigiotta
Anthony T. Brigiotta, 88, of 32 Marlow Rd., Jamestown, died Wednesday (March 7, 2012) in the WCA Hospital. He was born in Jamestown on June 6, 1923 the son of Francesco and Rosaria Raffa Brigiotta.
Tony was employed as an assembler at American Sterilizer Company for twenty-nine years, retiring in 1978. He served with the US Army from 1943 to 1946 and was discharged as a Technician Fifth Grade. His places of service included Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe where he earned the WWII Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, Belgian Fourragere and the Meritorious Service Unit Plaque.
He was a member of the VFW Post #53,the Disabled Vets and the American Legion Henry Mosher Post #638. Tony was a communicant of Holy Apostles at St. John Catholic Church where he served as an usher and was also one of the founding members of the Italian Festival. From September 1983 to February 1985 he served as chairman on the former Jamestown General Hospital Board of Trustees and was a former member of Jackson Valley Country Club. He had a deep love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing golf and spending time in his garden.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas and David Brigiotta and a daughter Toni (Daniel) Davis, Jamestown; five grandchildren, Karla Brigiotta and Nichole (Matt) Chollet, Atlanta, Ga., Kristina (Derek) Lazaro, Boston, MA., Danielle (Chris) Wahl, Jamestown and Andrew (Jamie) Davis, Buffalo, N.Y., seven great grandchildren, a brother, Samuel (Ann) Brigiotta and two sisters, Sally Sanfilippo and Frances (Samuel) Greco, Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lois Guichard Brigiotta whom he married on January 11, 1950 in Jamestown and who died on June 23, 2007.His sister, Mary Pizzo also preceded him in death.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Noon, Saturday in Holy Apostles at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis Mende, Pastor, will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the church.
