Obituary of Arthur George Conklin

Arthur George Conklin, 79, of the Lutheran Home, died at 8:10 p.m. Thursday (October 17, 2013) in the nursing facility.
He was born in Brokenstraw, Pa. on May 19, 1934 the son of
Frank R. and Agnes E. Beardsley Conklin. He was raised in Tidioute, Pa.
His first job was making baseball bats (Louisville Sluggers) in Ackley, Pa..
He worked a crosscut saw with his dad in the family business and later was a yardman at Union National Furniture Factory.
Art enjoyed fishing (Muskie & Walleye) in the Alleghany River and Chautauqua Lake. As a young man, he played a lot of baseball.
He also enjoyed hunting, gardening, arts & crafts and playing bingo. He was an avid New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan.
He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Marilyn Irene Blood Conklin whom he married on April 26, 1969 in Falconer, a son, Brian G. (Tricia) Conklin, Lakewood, grandchildren, Brian D. Conklin, Jamestown, Eric, Nathan & Sarah Priester, Lakewood, six brothers, Russell Conklin, Youngsville, Robert (Louise) Conklin, Florida, Albert (Betty) Conklin, Falconer, Kenneth (Gloria) Conklin, Irvine, Pa., Frank (Linda) Conklin, Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa. and Walter "Wally" (Chris) Conklin, Hondo, Tx..
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Jim, Johnny, Joe, Richard, Jerry and Lee Conklin and by his Uncle William Conklin, who helped raise him.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Steamburg United Methodist Church. The Rev. Albert Conklin and the Rev. Richard Young, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Steamburg United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 283, Steamburg, N.Y. 14783.
Visitation will not be observed.
