Salvatore "Sam" R. Guiffreda, 79, of 114 Valleyview Ave., Jamestown, died at 5:44 a.m. Wednesday (July 10, 2013) at UPMC Hamot. He was born in Jamestown on July 19, 1933 the son of Anthony and Bessie Mazzurco Guiffreda.
Sam was employed by the Jamestown Police Department for twenty eight years and attained the rank of Lieutenant and retired in 1986. For the past fifteen years, he was president of the Jamestown Boy's Club Alumni and was instrumental in developing the Jamestown Boys & Girl's Club scholarship fund. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church. Sam loved to spend time with his family and playing cards.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen Kellner Guiffreda whom he married on November 19, 1995 at South Hills Country Club., nine children, Susan (Carl) Davis and Karen (Joseph) Moynihan, Jamestown, Robert (Cindy) Guiffreda, Fredonia, Gary Galek, Fulton, N.Y., Stefanie (Jason) Casel, Virginia Beach, Va., Christina (Ramon) Adams, Pioneer, Oh., Deborah (Mark) Schell,
Randolph, Vincent (Adelfa) Gorski, Jr. and Cynthia (Thomas) Bradley, Findley Lake., nineteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, a brother, Joseph Giuffreda, Canton, Oh., three sisters, J. Patricia Schrum, Port Charlotte, Fl., Rose Bowman and Mary (Chuck) Swanson, Jamestown. Many cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Guiffreda.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 8:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boys & Girls Scholarship Fund, 62 Allen St., Jamestown, N.Y. 14701. You may send a condolence to the family by visiting www.hubertfuneralhome.com.
