Sebastian Ventura, 100, of 1751 Martin Road, Jamestown, died at 6:58 a.m. Saturday (May 11, 2013) at his residence. He was born in Tortorici, Sicily on November 23, 1912 the son of Sebastian and Rosa Lazzara Ventura.
Sebastian was employed as a foreman and supervisor for the former Maddox Table Company for over fifty years, retiring in 1979. He was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was one of the founders of the Chautauqua County Bird Dog Association of which he served as president for over forty years. He also served as a bird dog judge. He judged events in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Canada. He was also a member of the New Era Club at the YMCA and the Falconer Rod and Gun Club.
Sebastian is survived by his wife, Susan Peek Ventura who he married on July 1, 1978. His children Roselyn (Marion "Tony") Darrow, Endicott, N. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Ventura who died on June 18, 1972, and a sister, Angela Portale.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2013 in St. James Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received on Wednesday, May 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 4:00 PM.
