Carmela DiStefano Ditonto, 94, of Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing, formerly of 148 Indiana Ave., Jamestown, died at 1:10 a.m. Monday (September 22, 2014) in the nursing facility.
She was born in Jamestown on December 30, 1919, the daughter of
Natale and Sebastiano Rosella DeStefano.
Carmela had been employed in the laundry department of WCA Hospital for ten years and she was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church.
She was a great mother and grandmother and loved to cook for her family.
Survivors- a great great grandson
She is survived by a son, Alexander M. (Anita) Ditonto and a
daughter, Josephine Steele, Jamestown, four grandchildren, Brenda Bough, Scranton, Pa., Michael (Heather) Ditonto, Virginia Beach, Va., Daniel (Danette) Steele, Jamestown and Deborah (Joseph) Caruso, Falconer, seven great grandchildren, a great-great-grandson, two brothers, Natale “Nate” DiStefano, Jamestown and Sebastian (Bobbie) DiStefano, Goutier, Ms. and a sister, Josephine Zembardo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony P. Ditonto
whom she married on October 29, 1938 in St. James Catholic Church and who died on March 8, 2007 and by a brother, Frank DiStefano and by a sister, Grace Peterson
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.
Thursday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. John L.Kuhlmann, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 4:30 p.m.
