Anthony J. Merchant, 75, of Jamestown, passed away at 7:10 a.m. Saturday (September 5, 2015) in the WCA Hospital.
Anthony was born on February 16, 1940 in Jamestown to the late Tony and Ida Benenati Merchant of Allen St., Jamestown.
He was employed at R.H.I. Monofrax (formerly Carborundum) for thirty nine years, retiring in 1998. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and was a volunteer at the Audubon Society, Fenton Historical Society, L.S.S., R.S.V.P. and the WCA Hospital.
Anthony was a dearly loved father, husband, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He enjoyed art, his garden, golfing, boating, fishing ATV’s and riding his motorcycle. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of forty years, Joyce (Berg) Merchant and their combined children, Jude Merchant, Christopher (Christina) Merchant, Michos (Deborah A.) Garcia all of Jamestown, Bernadette Merchant (Edward) Greer, Greenville, S.C., Jay R. (Nancy) Martin, Lexington, N.C., Natalie Merchant. Cold Spring, N.Y., seven grandchildren, Anthony Merchant, Ellen Merchant, Abigail Merchant, Ashley (Ben) Juul, Lucia de La Calle, Sean Vejvoda and Karin Ahlgren, a great grandson, Reilly (Ridley) Juul.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Vale and Rose May Miano. Anthony was also preceded in death by his first wife, Anne (Meyer) Merchant, who passed away on this day, September 5, 2010.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (September 15, 2015) in St. James Catholic Church.
The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor, will be the celebrant.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Friends will be received on Monday (September 14, 2015) from 1:00 to 3:00 and 6;00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services where a Christian wake Service will be held at 7:45 p.m.
