Ronald “Ronnie” F. Rine, 83, of Jamestown, passed away at 8:10 a.m. Sunday (September 27, 2015) in the Lutheran Retirement Home after an eight years battle with Alzheimer disease.
He was born in Lancaster, New York on August 27, 1932 the son of the late Gerald and Jessie O’Dell Rine.
He was a 1949 graduate of Lancaster High School and continued his education at Bryant and Stratton Business College and graduated in 1951. He was a 1955 graduate of Fredonia State College with a degree in elementary education. He was also in the ROTC Program at Fredonia and enlisted in the Marine Corps as a First Lieutenant upon graduation. He served two years of active duty with the Marine Corps and upon his discharge, he served in the Marine Corp Reserve for seven years and attained the rank of Captain.
He furthered his education and received a Masters Degree at Buffalo State College in 1961 and his School District Administration Degree in 1969 at the University of Buffalo. He taught secondary science in West Seneca , N.Y. and later became a principal.
He moved his family to Jamestown and began his thirty year career as assistant Superintendent for Business at Southwestern Central Schools. Upon retirement in 1987, he ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Jamestown twice. He became the Chautauqua County Clerk of the Legislator and then started his own wedding video business. Ron was involved in many community organizations including the Optimist Club, St. James Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus Council #926, where he was a member of the Fourth Degree, the color guard and a former financial secretary, Masonic Lodge, 32nd Degree and a member of the degree team, Jamestown Republican Club and Celtics.
He served on several Board of Directors including American Cancer Society, American Lung Assoc., Boy Scouts of America Allegany Highlands, Fredonia Alumni and Lucille Ball Little Theatre, where he was a past president.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Ronnie was a character. He loved to tell stories and jokes. His passion was performing in Little Theatre Productions. He was in fifty two plays and his most memorable being, Brush Up Your Shakespeare, Guys and Dolls, Mornings at Seven.
Ron is survived by his wife, Karen Gallman Vail Rine, whom he married on July 2, 1977, three children, Mark “Brad” (Deborah) Rine, North Charleston, S.C., Amy Christine (James) Yeager, Danville, Ky., and David J. Vail, Atascadero, Ca., seven grandchildren, Jessica and Jacob Rine, Lancaster, N.Y., Joshua Rine, Buffalo, Alison (Nicholas) Tiemeyer, Denver, Co., James (Trey) III, Andrew (Drew) and John Yeager, Danville, Ky., a great grandson, Dillan Rine, Lancaster, N.Y., a sister, Betty Rine, Clarence, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Bradigan and a daughter, Elizabeth Rine.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015 in Christ Chapel of Lutheran. The Rev. Dan Rumfelt, Chaplain at Lutheran and Deacon Dan Tyler of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Forestville Cemetery.
Friends will be received for two hours prior to the service on Saturday, October 3, 2015..
