Please share a memory of Genevieve to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Genevieve Ferrau LaTone, 94, formerly of 397 Falconer Street, Jamestown was welcomed through the gates of Heaven at 11:58 p.m. Friday May 22nd. Gen was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Anthony J. “Steve” LaTone. She is at long last in his arms again. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Ferrau and Francis Paternitti Ferrau, a sister, Dorothy Fachetti of Erie, Pennsylvania, a brother, Anthony “Tony” Ferrau and a grandson Scott LaTone, both of Jamestown. Born May 3, 1921, Genevieve was a 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School. In the early years, she worked at MRC Bearings as a grinder. She and her husband owned Eastside Lunch and OK Caterers. She also worked at Cala’s Restaurant and worked as an inspector for the Board of Elections. Gen volunteered her time to teach Catechism, help with St. Joseph’s Table, and serve as a member of the Altar Rosary Society at St. John’s Church, where she was a devoted parishioner. She was a member of the Gadabouts through the YWCA for 10 years as well as a member of the Liberty Athletic Club Auxiliary. She was also a volunteer at the WCA Hospital Snack Shop for over 20 years. Her greatest success in life, however, was to be the wise and loving matriarch of her family. She leaves behind six children: Joseph (Dawn) LaTone, Mary Margaret LaTone, A. Richard “Dick” (Rita) LaTone, Cindy (Ron) Williams all of Jamestown; Michael (Pamela) LaTone Sr., and Stephen (Karen) LaTone both of Bemus Point. She is also survived by a brother Joe (Esther) Ferrau of Fremont, California, three sisters Mary Gangi of Sheridan, Theresa Civil of Queens, and Diane (Carl) Manzella of Fredonia, eleven grandchildren; Michelle Armentrout, Stephanie (Mike) Norrod, Todd (Christine) LaTone, Amy (Charley) Bonta, Matthew (Lindsey Potts) Williams, Michael (Lynn) LaTone Jr., Christine (Don D’Angelo) LaTone , Kimberly LaTone, Rachel (John) Fredrickson, Meghan LaTone and Molly LaTone; fifteen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, as well as many wonderful friends and family. Gen will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to God, her delicious Italian cooking, and her passion for sports, especially the Buffalo Bills, the Buffalo Sabres, and her beloved New York Yankees. She took great joy in the fact that so many of her great grandchildren shared her love of baseball. Those who loved her will remember her feisty, no-nonsense personality, her inspiring strength, and her beautiful smile that could light up a room. Though she will be dearly missed, the legacy of her love will be carried on in those lucky enough to have known her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015 in Holy Apostles St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis Mende, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery. Friends will be received on Friday, May 29, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
