Dan and I went to Seminary together at the same time.
Dan was a man of faith inspired stubborn determination who overcame so many obstacles back in a time when physically challenged persons were not afforded any special privileges. It was folks like Dan who helped move society towards a more accommodating place.
Dan had a wit and great sense of humor. We’d often joke that we were likely distant cousins.
I was thinking about him this morning, Googled his name, and discovered the obituary.
I’m sorry for the family’s loss.

Dan and I met by what seemed like chance, but I'm not so sure. I think the Lord had a hand in it. We were both signed up to take an "accelerated" course in Greek to begin work at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO. For both of us it turned out to be a "crash" course. As in "crash and burn". It's not natural to learn Greek in 6 weeks well enough to actually use it effectively in upcoming courses...all the while taking Hebrew, too. So we both dropped out of Greek. I signed up at our other seminary which better accommodated second-career guys with a full semester course in Greek. Then went home until fall to graduate four years later Dan dropped out of Greek to take other courses instead that summer and later took Greek and graduated at a different seminary than I. But we stayed in touch and visited one another and continued doing so until Dan's recent departure from this life But we will meet again thanks to the death and resurrection of of the One sent to save us who finally ascended to heaven to prepare a place for all who put their trust in Him. I admired Dan who lived a life determined to make his own way as best he could despite his handicaps. A good verse for Dan: "I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). He was a good friend for whom I give thanks.Steve Miller
