It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Aunt, and God Mother to many, the adopted matriarch to many, Maria Immordino. She departed this world on Thursday July 20th, 2023 at 2:30pm at the age of 88. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren, and dear friends. Maria's life was a testament to resilience, love, and a spirit of adventure that touched the hearts of everyone she encountered.
Maria was born on March 13, 1935 in Canicatti, Sicily to Vincenzo and Anna (Carlino) Donisi. While Maria Immordino's journey began in Sicily, where she was born and raised. In a daring move, she embraced love and married her beloved husband, Joe Immordino, on September 10, 1958 taking a chance on a new life in America. Leaving behind her humble one-room home and all that was familiar, she embarked on an adventure of a lifetime, leaving everything behind, including family and friends, to start anew in a foreign land with an unfamiliar language. Bold and fearless, she took the plunge.
Together, Maria and Joe built a beautiful life in America. Their home became a place of warmth, love, and laughter, especially on Sundays when family gathered after church to enjoy Maria's famous pasta. Her warm and welcoming soul made everyone feel at home, creating cherished memories that will be forever treasured.
Maria was preceded in death by her daughter Annie Immordino, her mother Anna (Carlino) Donisi, her husband Joseph Immordino, sister Lina Donisi, brother Joseph Donisi, cousin Dina Colletti, and many other friends and family members leaving her the last of her generation.
She is survived by her daughter Angie (Immordino) Giuffre (Charles Giuffre), son Chuck Immordino (Stacy Immordino), grandchildren Mary Jo Giuffre (Janel Laurin), Angelo Giuffre (Ylsa Giuffre), Giulia (Giuffre) Sowrey, Peter Immordino, Thomas Immordino, Jake Manley and Connor Manley as well as great grandchildren Anna Gessey, Rya Giuffre, Logi Giuffre, Luciano Sowrey, Kati Giuffre, and Nico Sowrey.
Maria was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society for many, many years. She enjoyed traveling the world, learning about new cultures and listening to Italian music. She had an insatiable curiosity for the world and embarked on travels that took her to distant lands, from the enchanting streets of France to the sacred sites of the Holy Land, where she was even able to ride a camel. She marveled at the serene beaches of the Bahamas and stood in awe of the Pyramid temple of Kukulcan in Chichen Itza, Mexico, among other places. Maria's love for exploring different cultures and embracing life's wonders knew no bounds. Her adventures will now continue as her ultimate journey begins.
Visitation will be held Monday July 24, 2023 from 4pm-8pm at Riccardi’s Hubert Funeral Home.
A mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday July 25, 2023 10am at St. James RCC.
Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
