Obituary of Joseph Granada

Joseph Granada, 80, of Albany, GA was called home February 25, 2023 at 2:11 pm in Albany. He was born Dec. 18, 1942, to John and Rose Riscile Granada in Westfield, NY. After graduating in 1961, Joe enlisted in the USMC where he was decorated with the Marksman Rifle Badge and good conduct medal. He was a supply administrative clerk in Albany, GA when MLK was there and in Arlington, VA where he attended the funeral of President JFK. In 1965, Joe was honorably discharged from active duty. He honored his comrads when he moved to Jamestown, NY by becoming a color guard first at Ira Lou Post 149 then Herman Kent Post 777.
In 1966, Joe began his 36-year career at Weber Knapp Co. where he retired as receiving foreman. In 2001 he retired from Urban Town News. He was also night manager Sambo’s Restaurant where he met a customer named Christine Stafford. They married in 1978.
Preceding him in death were his parents, sister, Francine and her husband, Vincent James Caputo of Buffalo, NY and best friend, Tom Buttafarro of Jamestown. Survivors include his wife, Christine, a daughter, Gina (David) Greco of Las Vegas, their children Massimo, a student at R.I.T. and Eliana, who attends Las Vegas Academy of the Arts. Loving niece and nephew Julie and John Caputo of Buffalo, NY and cherished cousins Dr. Gerald Brundo of Omaha, NE, Jack Gambino and Francine Brown of Westfield; all of whom received their Baptism, First Communion and confirmation together at St James R.C. church in Westfield.
Viewing services will be at Riccardi’s Hubert Funeral Home in Jamestown on Friday, March 3, 2023 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Funeral mass led by FR. Darrell Duffy at St. James in Jamestown where Joe had served as Sacristician and Eucharistic minister will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Westfield at St. James Roman Catholic Church Cemetery. A remembrance gathering will be held 1:30pm at Our Lady of Victory RCC Frewburg, NY.
On Feb. 8th Joe entered Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital where he stayed until the 25th. His family would like to thank the staff, especially of the Medical Intensive Care Unit where they tried everything.
