Alonzo William Grover, born September 17, 1932 in Ellington, NY passed away November 21, 2022 at UPMC Hamot Erie, PA.
Alonzo was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Mary Grover, his wife, Lucy Tyma Grover, and a sister, Berdina “Berdie” Mumford (Jack).
Alonzo is survived by his children, Alonzo W. (Loretta) Grover Jr. of Bel Air, MD, Michael J. Grover of Baltimore, MD, Kevin L. (Amy Lynn) Grover of Sinking Springs, PA, Julie A. Grover Seger of Dewittville, NY, and Darlene M. (Steven James) Siuta of West Seneca, NY, his grandchildren, Demian J. Seger of Westfield, NY, Nicolle Y. Seger of Buffalo, NY, Kirsten E. and Jillian M. Grover of Bel Air, MD, Brigitte A. and Andrew M. Grover of Baltimore, MD, and Kyle B. Grover of Chicago, IL and Sedona R. Grover of Huntington Beach, CA. Also surviving are step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Alonzo grew up working on his uncle’s dairy farm, later working for Gowanda Hospital. To provide a better life for his family he took a job in Jamestown, NY working at Ring Punch & Die then Jamestown Perforators until he retired in 1997.
He was a talented musician from a very musical oriented family. He played the saxophone in the marching band at school, in his uncle’s band and calling square dances as a teen. Alonzo went on to form several bands including, Lonnie & the Hitchhikers and played at various clubs in the area. Playing in the band was his true passion.
Alonzo was an avid gardener. He was involved in several clubs and an active member of the Moose Lodge for many years. His biggest joy came from spending time with his family. He loved vacationing with his wife, kids and grandkids. Alonzo was a family man. He will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held Tuesday November 29, 2022 from 9:30am-11:30am at Riccardi’s Hubert Funeral Home.
A mass of Christion burial will be held Tuesday November 29, 2022 12pm at St. James RCC.
Burial to follow at Villenova Cemetery South Dayton, NY.
