Obituary of Elizabeth C Waites

Elizabeth Carolann Waites, 77 of Jamestown passed away August 31, 2021. She was born June 30, 1944 in Manhattan, NY to Katherine Doby and Benjamin Waites. From Manhattan she made her way through Cattaragus County until finding a place she called home at the Resource Center in 1982. Joan Yost was a strong advocate for Lizzy and she enjoyed their visits. Lizzy made so many friends through her years. She had a flirtatious side and claimed the love of a few people on her journey. Ned has been her main man for several years even when he was according to Lizzy “no good”. Prior to Ned there was Mike and the love of her life, Tommy. Lizzy had a name for everyone and if she could not remember it right away you were called “whacko”. She joined many family gatherings through the years and brought with her the enjoyment of music and some good pizza and chicken wings. Lizzy just loved music, especially Elvis and knew the words to every song. At Dayhab she would get fired up with Meghann to Ray Charles and belt out Hit the road Jack to anyone who would listen. She loved hanging out at camp, grilling up some hotdogs and singing by the fire. Being outside in the back yard or watching the waves at the lake was a soothing time passer. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church where she would attend with her friend Rashonda. They would also go to the Juneteenth rally together. Lizzy loved to go shopping (with your paycheck) for a purple dress, shoes, and maybe some lipstick. Then back to the house to get all dolled up. Lizzy brightened any room with her love of life and heartfelt good-humored banter. She will be deeply missed. Arrangements entrusted to Riccardi’s Hubert Funeral Home.
