James J Ventura, 77 of Jamestown passed away January 23, 2020 at UPMC Chautauqua. He was born February 19, 1942 in Jamestown, NY the son of James Ventura and Marion Alonge Ventura.
Jim proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War 1961-1964 and achieved the rank of Staff Sargent. Jim was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
Jim worked as an MRC/SKF Union Committeeman for over 30 years. He also served as a City Councilman for 14 years. Jim received the George Ritzer Labor Award for his Union work.
Jim served on the Parks and Recreation committee for the City of Jamestown. He served as chair for the DPW and was involved in the annual Easter Egg hunt.
Jim was a member of the American Legion Post 777, the Celtics Club, the Marco Polo Club, the Antique Car Club, and the Eagles Club. As a communicant of St. James RCC Jim volunteered his time to help put on countless spaghetti dinners.
Jim was an avid car collector winning many awards.
Jim is survived by Rita Ventura, his nieces, Laura Auer and Nicole Krist, his nephews, Andrew Ventura, Paul Genco, and Jim Genco, his Granddaughters, Elizabeth, Courtney, Samantha, and Madison. Also surviving is a son, Michael Ventura.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Loretta Genco, his brother, Joseph Ventura, and his dog, Jerome.
Jim’s family would like to give a special thanks to Gene Zetterlund for being such a good friend and caregiver and to Mike Mistretta for being a long-time friend and always being there for Jim throughout his illness. Also, a special thanks to all the staff at UPMC Chautauqua and Heritage Green for their excellent care.
Visitation will be Sunday January 26, 2020 from 2pm-6pm at Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Burial will be Monday January 27, 2020 11am at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society.
